MSL
Multi-Sensory Language Program
At St. Alphonsus, we are able to identify and recognize children with learning differences related to reading and writing. For a significant number of normal students, traditional instruction fails to provide the means for the successful acquisition of language skills. Our Multi-Sensory Language (MSL) Program assists students who have not learned to read and write on pace with their peers (possibly dyslexic or ADD children), and need assistance learning these things through a structured, multi-sensory program.
All students in first grade are screened for possible weaknesses in language areas. Students coming into St. Alphonsus after first grade test to be accepted into the program.
During Language Arts, students who are admitted into our MSL program work daily with our Slingerland-trained MSL specialist, Mrs. Joan Corr. In all other subjects, students are integrated with their classmates and are responsible for the same workload.
During the school year, there are no additional tuition fees, but students are expected to attend 5 weeks of summer classes at an additional charge.
The St. Alphonsus MSL program prepares students well for high school and beyond. Mrs. Corr has taught for over 20 years at St. Alphonsus.
